Back-to-back wins as Main find their groove at Morpeth

Percy Main's Women's Softball team made it two wins on the bounce with a hard-fought victory away at Morpeth CC on Sunday, bowling with discipline before building a match-winning total of their own.

Smart bowling sets the tone

Skipper won the toss and had no hesitation in asking Morpeth to bat first - a decision that was richly rewarded. The Main bowlers were disciplined from the outset, keeping things tight and never letting the home side build any sustained momentum.

Morpeth were restricted to just 69 for 5 from their full allocation of 15 overs. Taking five wickets in a 15-over innings is no mean feat in softball cricket, and it reflected a committed team performance in the field - sharp ground fielding, energetic backing up and smart bowling changes all contributing to a very defendable total.

Main build a winning total

The Main batters showed patience and positivity from the outset, picking off the bad balls, rotating the strike and keeping the scoreboard ticking. Smart running between the wickets and a willingness to attack the loose deliveries kept the innings moving forward at a healthy rate.

Eight wickets fell along the way - a reminder of how quickly things can turn in this format - but the batting lineup's depth and composure ensured the total kept climbing regardless. By the close of the 15 overs, Percy Main had posted 90 for 8, a net score that left Morpeth well adrift of their own 69 for 5.

Momentum building at the right time

This result follows the previous week's excellent win at Warkworth and means the side have now strung together back-to-back victories for the first time this season. After a challenging start to the campaign that saw narrow reverses against Tynemouth, Seaton Burn and Monkseaton, the team is now firmly hitting its stride.

The win is all the more impressive given that Morpeth sit second in the Women's Outdoor Bash North Division - this was no soft opposition. Going away to a side in the top two and coming home with the points speaks volumes about the character and growing confidence in this group.

The team travel to Ashington Rugby CC next Monday (13th July) for another league fixture - and what a game that promises to be. Ashington Rugby currently top the table, so it's another opportunity to test themselves against the division's best and keep this encouraging run going.
